Doomed to be a Receptionist?

That temp job didn't last ten weeks it lasted more like two or max three weeks. Now I'm on like furlough from that so its like I never really had the job at all except for all the mileage, dents, and scratches that my car received in the process. If it hadn't been shotguns and packs of wild dogs everday it would have been something else I'm sure. So it turns out I didn't waste any time on the job and I was damn efficient enough that I worked myself out of a job. Isn't this fantastic?

So today I applied as a Legal Secretary to Hearne & Bailey, P.A. as well as applying to Gem Craft Homes as a Sales Associate which sounds suspiciously like receptionist. We'll just wait and see what those bring but I'm not going to cross my fingers. I'm sure that the competition is stiff and that they will both find highly qualified people.

It just really sucks that I actually went to school to get a degree, worked my butt off for my grades, didn't go out and party it up all the time and now nobody seems to value a hard working, type-A person like myself. Everybody wants laborers and restaurant staff which are jobs I could have done out of high school...and its likely that is what I'll end up doing, right? so remind me why did I go to school to get a expensive degree? What good does it do? Why did I work so hard, so long, and keep my grades up? Why did I get to be the lucky one to go when it came time for company wide layoffs? Why?

It's like there aren't enough people with college derees around here to begin with so local businesses just hire people off the street and if you went to a trade school or learned a technical skill you're more likely to be higher paid and have a job than someone who wasted their time attending college (let alone someone who actually cared and worked hard).

Why is our area devoid of competition among the computer and web firms? Why don't we have good solid web firms here? Why don't we have more than 3 legitimate ones that aren't running out of someone's basement? And why are those three sinking boats? Why can't they get it together and hire some quality talent that cares instead of lackeys that think they rule the world from behind a Halo screename. Ugh.
